A birthday card designed for a classmate.
The Brief
For the first project in my Graphic Design thinking class we were randomly assigned partners and were instructed to get to know them and what there ideal birthday party would be like. After getting this information we would create a birthday card for them that would give a little hint to what our partners party would be like. The thing that stood out about Tyler the most for me was really corny, bad memes and the prevalence of hockey and sports in his life.
I threw around the idea of multiple designs, and the client gave some me some bad memes to work with so I ran with that idea. I ended up making my own illustration that followed some of the styles I was learning in illustration 1 based off of one of the memes I was given. I created this cool cat with the sunglasses and a unique call to action for the party “you’ve been summoned.”
I also used another provided meme with my own flair to give it a sense of depth. One of the most important things for the back of this card was the use of space and type hierarchy. I continued the theme onto the back of the card with the call to action on the back being “123 ur moms house street” another play on the theme of memes.
